apply early w/ low GPA vs. apply later w/ slightly better GPA?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am on the same boat as you and I've been told to call the schools beforehand and ask them what they want and what would make you a better candidate. I have yet still to call but if you do let me know what they say too!

I would say that waiting a few months won't hurt. My app was fully submitted in December and I received immediate interview invites (within a week) from all of the schools I applied to minus SCCO. SCCO has automatic interview invites sent out based on stats, but because mine weren't at that level, it took another week or two for the invite to come through after they had a chance to actually review my app. January is around the normal time that many people interview at. Most of the seats at the schools I want to go to are a little over half full at this point in time, based on Class of 2023 Facebook group joins. I would say that around 3/4 of the available seats for most schools have been offered at this point in time (2/2019).

I also say this because if you were to submit early and aren't up to their standards (2.7 is on the low end), they will likely put your app to the side. It's better to come off as strong of an applicant on the first run through that way they remember you and send you an invite. It was also nice receiving immediate interview invites. There was little to no waiting or worrying involved.

Ahh, I see. Thank you for sharing; you definitely helped me decide on my timeline to apply 🙂
