Well, I'm in a very borderline case in my opinion but maybe those of you with experience could let me know your opinions.

I just don't know if I should just apply with these scores or retake the MCAT in August and then apply in October when scores are released.

In 1994-1997, I did really poorly in school. I took sciences, math and had D's and F's. I opened up a business, took business courses to help me out (average B's and C's) and now I've went back to my original dream of pursuing medicine. In the past two years, I have straight A's in prereqs and my Psych classes for my major and 1 B in Physics 1.

Should I apply with a VR 7 PS 8 BS 9 (24N) or should I just study this summer and retake / apply late? I know people have got in with 24 but at the same time, I don't have the best record either like those guys and gals.

I have shadowed two DOs, one for over a year. I have great letters from instructors.

My guess is to study until August and try again, but my app will be really late.

Thank you very much for your help.

I would apply. I know of a couple of people with your MCAT who got in. Just make sure your essays ROCK!!!!

Send in your applications now and check the box that you will be retaking in August. At least your applications will be in and then once the schools are notified of your new score they will be complete.

Try it out! I know people with LOWER stats that got in! 🙂

I am NOT retaking and I AM applying...

I am a gambler but I have never taken such a gamble (and with my stats this is a gamble and a half)

Thanks for the good thoughts... :luck:

Hello OnMyWayThere,

From what I remember, your gpa is around a 3.0 and your mcat is a 24N. I think if you apply now to all 22 or so DO programs you will get in somewhere. But, if you are looking at COMP or TUCOM, it may be more difficult to get in to those. For both schools, the average gpa for accepted applicants was around a 3.3 and the average MCAT for accepted students was close to a 27.

Because of this, you may have a difficult time getting into the CA DO schools but you may get into an out of state DO school. Good luck. :luck:
