Ok, I am a NYS resident with a really crappy gpa but very nice upward trend (actually more like 180 and not a trend). My overall gpa is a notch over 3.00, science is in the 2.75-2.80 range, BCP is 3.15-3.2 range. The last 115 credit hours I have had notch over 3.9 (A's in all prereq's). Over this period of time (last 115 credits) I have worked 30 hours a week and taken over 20 credits a semester. Not much volunteer work, and I haven't begun to shadow but will very soon. My goal is to apply in June and take the DAT in late July/early August and study my a$$ off for it.

From what I hear there are schools that recalculate gpa with grade replacement (despite AASDAS) because this is the schools own policy. I have also heard that there are some schools that look at only the past 5 years and disregard anything prior to that.

What I am trying get at is which schools would be my best bet? I know I will get the NYU and BU response and yes they are viable options at a heavy price. I read on Detroit-Mercy and UNC website where they explicitly say they have no minimum gpa for people that pulled a St. Valentine's day massacre on their gpa from when they were younger. Also does anyone know if there are really any schools that recalculate gpa after they recieve it from AASDAS? Has anyone from NYS gained admission to either U of B or Stonybrook with similar gpa?

i dont know about those NY schools, but at my temple interview im pretty sure they said they were giving interviews to everyone with a gpa over 3.0 and DAT of 18 or higher. so, id apply there if i were you. also, really explain yourself in your personal statement, emphasizing how well you are doing and what went wrong in the first place. and most importantly, apply early-may/june.

Thank you, I have Temple on my radar. Does anyone know anything about Nova's admissions?

Nova seems to be fairly competitive...id double check that if i were you.

Edit:

DAT 19
PAT 17
GPA overall 3.53
GPA Science 3.5

Nova has been accepting very high stats this year like most schools. I heard their average gpa was around a 3.6 and dats in the 20's. I was in the same boat as you i started out crappy my first couple years had a 2.9 overall but got straight A's the past two years and have a 3.42 overall now and 3.3 science. To tell you the truth i dont know that schools look that much at your overall trend although i did apply late in the cycle so it may be that the lateness of my application narrowed my chances. As for Temple its going to probably cost you close to that of BU. I also dont know that i agree with that statement that they interview everyone with a 3.0 and an 18 because my friend has a 3.5 and an 18 with alot of shadowing and didnt get an interview. I would just try and do killer on the dat and apply real early.
