Applying Again. Opinions needed.

Not sure why you didn't get even one interview. Your stats look fairly competitive.

when did you apply before? (month/batch)

I applied in the middle of September.

thats probably why you didn't get any interviews.

Did you apply to the schools that required a lot of volunteering hours? I know some require 500-1000+

I feel like you can still get in this cycle with those stats. Some schools are still interviewing applicants! Just hang in there.

I had no idea about requirements for volunteer hours. But I applied to Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, buffalo, case western and Louisville. I got rejected from 3 and two are done with interviews apparently.

Think your next cycle will be much more successful cause you will be casting a wider net and doing it a lot earlier. Best of luck

You might as well call the schools that have rejected you and see what they have to say about improving your application. It shows your dedication, and knowing can only help!

Probably not every school will be forthcoming, but you can still try.

Ahh, you win, forgot it existed but to be fair, both ATSU. 😉
yup they are very new and same school, so its definitely easy to forget 😛

What is your state of permanent residency? Make sure to apply to that one. Also try emailing professors in the school asking questions. Gets your name out there. Your stats are pretty great though! Maybe become involved with some organizations and becoming a leader of said organization.

Wait- 4.5 months later you are still working on your 100 hrs of shadowing?

Find some schools that take more Canadians than usual - I know NYU is one. Hopefully you applied to the Canadian schools, too, although I hear they're even harder to get into. I think you should try to get those DAT scores up, but if you do try, try to kill it and show some improvement.

I always say this, but I don't *actually* know if it helps: shadow some specialists. I don't know why anyone would shadow just one dental professional, or why a school would give any credence to someone who has (not sure if you did that, but I know some who have).

You might consider starting one of those post-baccs or Masters programs that everyone always recommends, but, I'll be honest, I would think those numbers would at least land you an interview. It may be your residency situation, unfortunately.

Minnesota. And thanks! I will look into that!

Thanks for all your replies everyone! I really appreciate it.

I only had 40 hours of shadowing when I applied in September. I'm aiming for 100 for when I apply again this year.
I had this same problem the first year I applied. I only had about 40-50 hours shadowing at the time of my application, which was a bit late. I applied earlier this year and had more shadowing hours (about 100) and was accepted on December 2. Tough process, but good luck!
