Hey there fellow peeps,
I'm reapplying for MD and DO school this semester and i would like some input on my chances...
I have graduated with a BS in Bio this semester with a 3.45 cGPA and a 3.4 sGPA. (Numbers are varied depending on the classes that are calculated for sGPA, lowest possible GPA is listed.)
I have taken the MCAT once last year June 2015 with a 497 (sucks i know). I am retaking it in Aug. and I hope to do better...
I have logged around 150 hours of volunteering in ER and Neurology depts in hospitals. Also 30hrs of shadowing a cardiologist.
I have worked in two separate Medical offices under a cardiologist and internal med doctor with many hours (didnt count to be honest).
I have done research with two separate professors in separate disciplines (Organic chemistry, Neurobiology).
I have worked part time throughout college in order to support myself and finish it with no debt. (only positive thing from college to be honest)
I have letters from 1 (hopefully 2) MD's, 3 chem professors (might cut 1), 1 biology professor, and a speech professor.
I know much of this is fluff but at the end of the day, I'm confident I'm going to succeed in Med school.
Thanks for reading and your inputs, i highly appreciate it..

P.S. If this doesn't work out, I'm going to St. George in Grenada and making the best of it!

If you can get your MCAT > 500, then DO schools are doable. > 510, then some MD also possible. But an Aug MCAT will likely arrive too late to make you marketable for MD schools (except maybe your state schools). The DO cycle is longer and so you have some wiggle room/

Don't even think about the Carib diploma mills because you're exactly the gullible, high risk mark they prey upon. Or do you like the idea of being unemployed and deeply in debt?

Ahh Mr. Goro, it is amazing how almost 1 year ago exactly I asked the same question and you had replied as well..
I personally believe that even if I go to St. George, as long as I do well on the boards, don't I have a shot at getting a residency position in the US? Or is this a stupid lie that means nothing? I personally live in NY and Med schools here are competitive as F.

You got a 493 on the MCAT, and your GPAs are 0.3 points lower than the median MD acceptee. I can't sugar coat this...why do you believe that you're the special snowflake who will magically do well on Boards???

The odds of you ever being a doctor after going to the Carib are 50-50 at best, and most likely will be even worse by the time you graduate.

IF you can improve on the MCAT, then Albany, and NYMC are doable.

But beggars can't be choosy and DO schools will have to be on the list.

A little light reading assignment:

It appears as though you are taking survey. Do you have any idea of the level of competition for MD/DO you are against.

Unfortunately your MCAT is holding you back combined that with your low GPA, and that is a recipe for no II!!

You are wasting your time, energy and money by applying without a serious MCAT score, no adcom is looking at your APP this way.! They have thousands to review and yours will get prescreened out. Harsh as this is it is reality!

You're absolutely right. Looks like DO schools might be my only choice... Thank you Goro once again...
