Hey Guys-
I'm new to the site here; forgive me if this type of question is/was previously posted...
I am entering my senior year in undergrad. As a Bio major, I have completed the majority of my pre-med courses, along with other science classes (Genetics, Microbio, etc.) with the exception of Organic Chemistry. Due to high demands, I was not able to get into the Orgo class last year, as I initially had plans for. Now, I am left with a dilemma in terms of taking the MCATs and applying for the 2011 cycle.
I have been studying and preparing for the MCATs as I currently have intentions of taking them in August. I have decided to self-teach the Organic concepts, since I will not have any classroom background until I begin the Fall 2010 semester at my college.
My question is, do I still have a shot of getting into D.O. schools without having my Organic Chemistry grades in? I won't have Organic I & II completed until May 2011 (my graduating year). Is it even worth applying, or will I be wasting my time?
I spoke with the Asst. Director at NYCOM...he told me that I can "still apply" but did not give me a clear/definitive answer. He told me that it is possible to take the MCATs without Organic Chemistry, but not something they advise students to do (obviously).
I would appreciate all of your posts/responses and would be thankful for any alternative paths I could take.
