Applying Bio.

While reading the posts of people who have recently written the DAT, many are saying that the bio section is more conceptual. That's understandable. Some go further to say that you will have to apply your bio knowledge on the test. What does that even mean? For me at least, I have always either memorized bio facts or understood their concepts, but never applied it to anything.

Can anyone out there help me understand what applied bio questions mean and how you can apply your bio knowledge to solve new problems?
