I'm a GA resident applying to med school for this upcoming cycle. Taking MCAT this friday- practice tests have all been below 510 but above 505 and cum gpa 3.3/science 3.2. I know my stats are very low for MD schools and i likely will have to take another gap year, but i'd like to still try for this cycle bc I have my personal statement/recs all done and im eager to start.

I was wondering if you think it would be better to apply ED to mercer (where it seems they take a good percentage of their class from) or chance it with applying to 40+ MD schools that take students with lower stats. I would be very happy going to mercer and have a history of working with underserved communities, but if I were to not even get an interview i'd likely have to wait until the next cycle to apply to the other schools (not going to submit apps to other schools in October because its too late by then). not sure if any of this matters, but have 3+ years research experience, went to top 20 school, have really good extracurriculars, taking post bacc courses over summer in addition to scribing to try to boost gpa (will send updated transcript to schools when it comes in July)
Mercer has historically been friendly to pre-application queries about one's application's suitability as a ED candidate. I suggest you call and ask if you can discuss the issue with someone, maybe making an appointment for a later phone consultation. You might want to have on hand your year-by-year cGPAs and BCPM GPAs.
