Hi guys I am new to SDN, I was wondering if you guys can help me out to make some decisions.

Currently, my gpa is about 3.85 sci/overall.
I am a chm major and bio minor.

and I took my dat last summer but did not do good at all.
My scores were TS/AA/pat, 19/18/18.

But I am taking a new dat in the end of August this year.

I know I will be prepared and I will do better on it. That's the only way I see myself getting into school.

Anyways, my question is should I apply ASAP in may or wait until I get my new dat scores?

I know people say call schools to find out and etc.

But what are some general thoughts on it?

Another thread of someone with an above average gpa and average DAT scores worried about getting in. Seriously man, just apply now, the stats you have now would probably get you in somewhere if you apply to enough schools.

I think your GPA and DAT scores are fine - meaning that I have the same DAT and a lower GPA 😉

My advice to you would be to buy the AADSAS/ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools. The book was VERY helpful to me in deciding where to apply - it lists average DAT/GPA scores and what shadowing experience and LORs are required for each school.

Good luck! (PS: We're not ALL a bunch of sour puss pre-dents 😛)

Thanks for putting down my scores, a-hole.

btw, i was accepted to two schools, but based on your perception of reality I'd say that your chances are slim.

Just apply. Your DAT scores are solid. Your GPA is outstanding. If you are taking the DAT again let them know that you will be retaking it in the DAT section.

thanks for all replies guys, I really appreciate it.
I didn't mean to say my scores are horrible, I am just really worried because when I attended couple of open house meetings it seemed like all the stats were very high, esp. for DAT scores.

so if I offended anyone sorry for misunderstanding.
I too do not want to retake the DAT but I am considering just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for good advices!

Nice GPA, but as you said DAT is a bit low for top schools, IMO I think your GPA makes up for it. Despite you have little confidence in yourself you can get in with your current DAT score s long as you have EC's.
