i just took the hellish mcats last weekend and would like to know if anyone out there is going to start on their amcas before you get your scores. i know the scores come out in june but the cycle starts in may... i'm not sure if i want to start it yet... 😕 even tho i should've learned my lesson from last time

You should write your PS (if you haven't already) and get together all your LORs now. If you wait until your scores come out to do these things you'll end up super-stressed.

Otherwise I don't think it makes a huge huge difference whether you send it in on June 1 or June 30. I figure as long as you get your secondaries in by around the end of August you'll still be in the first batch of people to get their apps looked at.

You can wait for the April MCAT scores and still get your apps in months ahead of the August MCAT folks, which shouldn't put you at any major disadvantage. I agree with the prior poster who indicated you should get all your LORs lined up and to your committee now, and finish at least a first draft of the PS. But I wouldn't spend the thousands of dollars to actually apply until you see those scores -- it could change affect whether or where you apply.

ya I agree with everyone here... AMCAS has that "application worksheet." You can download that, start filling it out, figure out all your responses / line up LOR's / hammer out the PS and get all your stuff together, and then wait for the scores. Maybe, around June 12 or so, you can also mail your transcript to the aamc?

Anyway, wait before you submit the AMCAS, but have it ready to submit as soon as scores are released to you.

Hey! Have faith in yourself! I took helllish MCATs in August and waited and waited and waited until the scores came in to put in my AMCAS. Don't do it! The MCAT turned out to be really good, and I did get 8 interviews, but I was waitlisted at so many schools because of the late date. I wound up getting in to Univ. at Buffalo anyway, but I should have had more faith in my abilities. It would have saved a lot of heartache and anxiety. Don't put yourself in that position, and apply EARLY!! Good luck! 🙂

Getting your AMCAS in with all the rec letters, transcripts, etc... before the MCAT score comes out is the best thing you can do for yourself. Timing is critical, not just for interviews but for scholarships too.

ajf211: Maybe the reason for waitlisting is not because of the timing of the august scores...otherwise I dont think you might even have gotten so many interviews.

Perhaps the issue was with the interviews themselves.
