hello guys. i am a 2nd year fm resident and throughout medical school i had a hard time picking between ER and FM and ultimately i choose FM. at the time there were 2 FM/EM programs which i did not apply for because of location.

my question will i have trouble with funding when i complete my FM residency and apply for EM? I am going to use all my FM funding and pursue EM right after I finish my FM residency. I am a US graduate.

Please assist me as I do not understand this whole funding issue as I have used my funding for FM and not put it to waste. I am applying all over for EM. I just dont understand this process.

Has anyone or anyone know anybody who has successfully done FM then pursued EM?

Thanks

The rumor on SDN is that AGME will not fund a second residency spot - I have no idea if this is true, but it should be easy to find out with a few phone calls.

That is indeed the rumor among people who don't know WTF they're talking about.

Except that every single thread on SDN that has addressed it (at least in the last several years) has debunked this "rumor", often with long, complicated explanations of exactly how it's untrue (and how GME is funded, the difference between IME and DME, what determines any individuals # of years of funding, and exactly how much of that funding is lost once you "run out")

If you are currently in FM and want to do EM and if it is difficult for you to do or get a second residency, try looking into an EM or Urgent Care fellowship post FM residency.
