There are a number of threads around here that discuss applying for admission to MPH programs, the GRE, etc, so I thought I'd put them in one stop.

To our esteemed Moderator,

I figured they would be more managable if separate, but they could easily be turned into a FAQ thread.

just thought it might make things easier for people looking for info if it was all at one place/ one thread..seeing these are the top few questions any potential applicant asks (why? how? what are my chances?- or variations thereof). however, i get where you are coming from, and my post above stands duly edited.

Still, here is a link to Adcadet's "Why MPH(Compiled)"thread:

and seriously, i think you have done a great job compiling them! :)

How good am I?

-got a BS in Bio and anthropology
-I have a 3.34 GPA from a 1st tier/2nd tier borderline school
-did HORRRRRILBE on the GREs, as I had less than a month to study and had just recovered from sickness a week prior to exam!!! Got 440V and 630M. I'm retaking them since I know i got at least a 1230 on practice exams (which i heard were harder).
-1 abstract publication for American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS)
-1 conference presentation for (AFFS)
-2 manuscripts under review for publication-- 1 for American Journal of Forensic Science and the other for Journal of Human Evolution
-working for the last two months at MD Anderson Cancer Center as an Assistant Epidemiologist in the Clinical Cancer Genetics Unit.

Should I retake the GREs??? I really don't have time since apps are due feb 1st!

Am I good enough to apply to these schools:
columbia, emory, univ michigan, univ of chicago, ut-houston, tulane, gw, ucla?

HELP MEEEEE!!

just added links to the 1-year MPH threads and one more MD/MPH thread (which contains my admittedly biased view)

Hey all -
let me know if you find any good information that should be in this thread. PMs work fine, and I'll try to addend my original post with your new info.
Thanks!

Hi,
I applied at ST.LOUIS UNIVERSITY , MO - for 1 year MPH
Got a call for the interview, and they say they will let me know after the interview if I got accepted or rejected.
Can anyone tell me how should I prepare for the interview ??? any suggestions.

UNIVERSITY - ST LOUIS
PROGRAM - EPI
BACHELORS IN MEDICAL FIELD

Thanks

Hey everyone, I'm new on here and was wondering if anyone could help me out with a few questions I had. First off, I actually just graduated with a BS in Materials Engineering with a focus in Biomaterials. I thought about getting an MPH because I've always wanted to get involved in a health related profession...specifically working with a medical device company. I've seen some posts about people who have an MPH working in industry, but haven't been able to find much more info on it.

I know I have to take the GRE (which I am currently prepping for), and I've done research on possible schools, but is there any site that just has a list of the top 50 MPH programs in the nation?

Also, what pre-reqs are required by most schools? I've done the general bio, chem and even an organic chem class...along with a couple business and stats classes (and all the math classes), but are there any other classes that i NEED to take to get into most programs?

Ok one last question. Have you ever heard of an engineer going to get their MPH? (Are there any of you out there?)

Hi sp83. How about starting a new thread?

I would except apparently I'm awaiting activation by the administrator (not sure how long that will be).

Sorry if this sounds a bit rude, but please try NOT to post Questions on this information thread. On the other hand, if you feel there is some information that would benefit a majority of those coming here, such as yourselves, add the link/post it here.

To ask a Q, may I suggest using the "New Thread" icon at the top of the list of threads. Once again, I dont intend to sound angry or anything :) , just making it life simpler for both, those wishing to have their Qs answered, and those wishing to gather information without coming across personal Qs.

..And sp83: Yes, I have seen engineering majors in Public Health. However, they prefer to major in Biostats/ Environmental Health.
Cheers!

yep, i'm one. did my SB in cheme and bioeng. Most of my previous experience has been involved in biomaterials and medical devices in industry and academia. I didn't even realize I wanted to apply to MPH until the last semester of my senior year in college. So I haven't prepared in any way (in terms of classes) for it. So far, I've been accepted by UW, UMich, and Berkeley. You're not alone! Hope this helps...

Wow Adcadet... thank you very much for essentially helping me plan the next few years of my life! Your compiled list of threads really helped!

:)

Hello Freinds,

I am doing my internship in BDS in India and will complete in September.

I am planning to do DDS in USA and someone told me to join MPH and then study for the national board and apply for DDS.

I dont know how to go about and what are the prospects after this.

What is fees for MPH and how can I get admission for the same.

I have just started preparing for GRE.

Can you guide me of some college in Baltimore, Maryland, Virginia or Washing DC area for MPH.

I would need financial assistant for the same.

Hello there,

My question is very similar to many of the others. I am a senior at Vanderbilt, majoring in Biology. I am worried about applying to an MPH program because I don't think I have enough public health experience - I volunteer in a cancer center, and a hospital, and also have 2 years of biology research experience (in speciation of beetles, nothing public health related), but is that enough?

My main question is, is it better to 1. apply, get rejected and then reapply, or 2. to take time off after graduation and get a year or two of solid public health work experience before applying? If you get rejected will they even consider you a year or two later?

Thanks so much!! I really appreciate any insights to the process.

Thank you for this! I was looking for more information about Public Health and found this very helpful.

(I'm currently taking up BS PH. I just recently changed to this degree program from BS Biology. I'm really happy my application to change courses got approved. Classes will start Nov. 8. I'm excited. :) )
