I am applying for residency and want to do cardiology.

Any suggestions on which of the following are the better internal medicine programs (to help get to a cards fellowship)?

University of Colorado
University of Virginia
University of Rochester
University of Alabama
Ohio State University
University of Pittsburgh
Georgetown

i would go with:

UPitt=UVa
Colorado=Alabama
Ohio State = Rochester
Georgetowm

this is based on reputation only. you'd get a better answer if residents/fellows from those programs would post their match lists and number who didn't match from the past few years.

Here's a thread on UPitt that might shed some light on things:

I'm a prelim intern there right now and the medicine training is phenomenal with a very supportive PD. Pitt definitely has the resources for research if you're interested. That said, I think there was a ~50% match rate for cardiology last year from all the pitt residents that applied. This apparently mirrors the national rate.

Bottom line, it has the resources for you if you are willing to put the effort in. Any decent university program with a good cards program should be what you are looking for
