Hi guys,
So currently I am in my 3rd year Canadian Student and I was supposed to apply in the summer going to 4th year, so for the 2019 cycle. But, I have alreasy written my OAT this past summer and got a 330 and 320 and my gpa is 3.63 currently. Some people told me that why don't I apply for the 2018 cycle instead and if I get in I can go 1 year earlier. Out of the schools I want to apply for the only school that I have the requirements for is ICO but that is also my top US school. It would be too late to apply to Waterloo but do you think I have chance with these scores and if I waited till next year? My LOR for a science professor isn't the strongest since in that class I didnt recieve the best mark in it but I could use it. Do you guys think I should only apply to ICO or is that going to put a vad impression if I dont get in and I apply again next year? Would they ask questions like what are your reasona for reapplying and would you a new personal statement and everything again? Would it be too late to submit near the end of October since I am not the best writer so it takes time come up with things. Would anyone be willing to give me any tips in how to write a personal statement and the application process for ICO specifically. If applying this late in the cycle do I still have chances of receiving any scholarships? Also, in your opinion is it worth saving a year of undergrad or is that going to lower my chance of getting in? Thank you!

The worst that could happen is they say no and you have to apply again next year. As far as prereqs, most schools have conditional acceptances that you complete all of their prereqs before you start classes. So you can still apply to the schools, and if you get accepted then either take the classes that you need in the spring or summer before you start optometry school.

330 and 320 is probably too low of an OAT score for waterloo next year, their average has been 370 historically. If you wanted to apply to waterloo next year, I strongly advise you to re-write your OAT. However you score is fine for most US schools! Just depends if you want to spend the fortune it is to study in the states.

I don't think there is anything wrong with applying this year even if you don't get in and have to re-apply next year. It only gives you the advantage of knowing the application and interview process! I've heard that most schools ask if you're a re-applicant, and they just want a brief explanation of how you have changed/what is different since your last application.

Best of Luck!!
