Applying MD and DO

Hi all!
I have an interview at Western on 10/18 (I'm excited!). Western is very much one of my top choices because, for me, location is very important. But I also applied all over the country for MD programs b/c I want to keep my options open. I'm quite laid back and am open to both types of programs but if/when the question comes up as to why I applied to both, will they penalize me for this? That I don't have a firm decision as to what route I want to take?
