Hi everyone,

I am going to be a first year this coming fall. I had a great experience in applying to dental schools. I received all my interviews and was accepted to all schools that I interviewed with. I will be attending my 1st choice school. I decided to gather all of my information I used to apply, some resources, opinions, advice etc concerning the DAT, interview, and application process. I am sending this packet of a "How to apply to dental school" because I didn't find much help when I applied. I will be selling each copy for $20 including s/h. This is to cover costs. I am simply taking a poll now to see approximately how many people would be interested in one. You don't have to buy one now, this is just an "interest" thread. So if you would like one or are interested, respond please! If you have any questions, feel free to message me!!!

This is what friends are for i ask any questions to friends of mine who have already taken the DAT and gotten into school.

It's great that you've decided to organize the advice and information you found useful during your pre-dental path to help others..

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a forum where pre-dents and dental students could share information related to their pre-dental experience for free?

Charging $20 and especially advertising on this forum is kind of lame isn't it?

It's a not a bad feeling to give advice, worth more than the small amount of money you might earn with this "packet".

That being said, if it really is groundbreaking stuff, make a website.
If it's popular you can generate some $ through advertisements.

I understand what you are saying - however, for the amount of paper, ink and shipping - my profit would be $5?

I think it is useful to have in paper a plan or guide to applying to schools from someone who recently went through the process. Someone suggested to ask their friends, but some people don't have friends who have gone through the process and some have friends who didn't get into many schools.

This poll was not to sell anything, but to see if anyone had interest in it.

Plus, I don't need the $20 nor do I need to print a guide for anyone who doesn't want it. This guide does not guarantee anything, but I can tell you it is very useful for people interested in learning what a very successful application process can be like.

1. Scores: including a copy of an actual score report
2. Appropriate interview questions and feedback
3. Application advice and suggestions
4. What to do to improve your application
5. A plan on how to attack the DAT, study suggestions, material feedback
6. More on the process as a whole and where you should be at each step of the application process.
7. Tips to stay organized

If you're not doing it for a profit, than don't bother creating a guide; just type all of your useful info into SDN. If you are feeling charitable, set up a free web page that tells applicants all of your knowledge. Plus, just because you received 100% interviews and acceptances for schools applied, doesn't mean you know any tricks to getting in. Your GPA and DAT are relevant for understanding what your situation was. Now if you had low stats and still got 100% acceptance, that would be worth something.
In addition, there are guides out already that are cheaper than what you are offering.

I understand what you are saying. Still, I think it is good for students who want some advice and are nervous about the application process. The book you were referring to is probably excellent as well, but it is written by a dentist and it was said to have a number of cons to it too. This can be a good perspective, but I think a student's perspective may be even more helpful. Also, of all the students on SDN and pre-dents, don't you think someone who went through a successful application process would have already thought of this idea? I really enjoy helping others figure out how to apply and do it successfully - but it is also a perk to make a profit. Putting my guide online may seem beneficial to you, but it is like another "material" to use in applying. I don't think it is anywhere nearly expensive as Destroyer, Kaplan, or Achiever- but for those who want just another resource and push, than my guide may be helpful.

Also, I believe my gpa/scores were competitive, but there were definitely not perfect.

I admire your entrepreneurial spirit and thinking. But as a skeptical consumer I don't think your one-time experience qualifies you to trade knowledge for money. When you get to dental school you should try to get onto the admissions committee. I think that would give you the inside knowledge that a predent wants.
