Applying this late?

So I just received an email from AACOMAS as a reminder that deadlines were soon approaching to apply. I'm not applying until June, but I thought it was funny that they still accept primary applications this late? Is this nothing more than just taking people's money or do people actually have a chance applying at the last minute? 🙄

I actually know someone who applied this late last year. Submitted secondary on THE deadline if I recall. Currently an MS-I.
