Now, I'm not rich. I just think it is a good idea, like an investment. Because applying to 50 schools gives me a good shot at securing a landing on at least one campus. Now, I am only in undergrad, freshman year starting in September. So I am FARRRRRR away. But I am planning everything now. My plan is to get everything done by June, end of junior year. My undergrad does not start school until early October so would I get secondaries in August/September so I can do them without university stress? On a side note, can you recycle secondary questions to other secondaries?

There's a cost to applying to a school not measured in dollars. Supplementals are emotionally taxing and time-consuming. And, no offense, given your posts on SDN I'm not really getting the sense that you have some astonishingly high level of stress tolerance.

There's no point in applying to so many schools. If your stats are decent, you won't be a good fit at that many schools. If your stats aren't decent, you'll be applying to 40-50 schools that won't even consider you.

If you are that far away there is no need to worry about it now. Luckily you have found SDN as a freshman and are able to know what you need to do in order to succeed. Worry about your GPA and start ECs now and you'll be set.

Ok. About the secondaries thing, 50 schools should yield at least 20 secondaries. Btw, what are decent stats in your opinion?

And I don't stress, I am just extremely ambitious

50 schools will probably yield 45-50 secondaries.

Decent stats for applying MD are GPA > 3.4 and MCAT > 28. If your stats are about there, like 3.45/29, then you should be applying to 10-15 low tier MD programs and a bunch of DO programs. If you're below that, you should consider not applying to MD programs. Well above that, and you target your apps to ones that fit best.

You are not an undergrad - not until September, at least .. Anyway, applying to 50 schools isn't a good idea because, honestly, if you are applying to 50 schools, then you haven't really taken the time to select schools that are good fits for you. It will also prevent you from spending the appropriate amount of time on your secondary application essays.

I wouldn't think about this question until you're about ready to apply. For now, just focus on doing well in school and getting your feet wet in a few activities outside the classroom. Where to apply can come later .. once you have a GPA or MCAT score, for example.

So many things wrong with this thread. First of all, you've named yourself Biochem master yet no high school I know of teaches the subject (not that biochem is difficult at all). Second, medical school isn't a game of chance. There is an element of luck, but that is for the people who actually have a decent application. Someone with 2.5 and 26 MCAT can apply to all the medical schools in the country as opposed to applying to one school and their chances might increase a tenth if a percentage point. You need the stats to play the game of luck. The same goes for borderline applicants. After about 30 schools, even they've hit a.threshold so adding more schools does very little to your chances. Also, are you really talking about secondaries now? Yes, they can be recycled for similar sounding prompts (you could have searched that) but obviously not at all for the ones that ask why you applied to a certain school. Once you are closer to the actual process, you'll understand why you sound so ludicrous right now. Focus on buying what you need for college, doing well your first year., and start looking up when hospital volunteering sign up starts...sorry to talk down to you, but that's what you ought to be doing right now. That being said, I admire your ambition, but make sure your priorities are set right.

I must disagree with my young colleague and point out that the median GPA for MD matriculants is 3.6, with MCAT score of 33. 3.4 and 28 is the floor. Actually, 28 is circling the drain...30 is the realistic floor.

For DO schools, those numbers are good.....right now. They have been going up every year, so in two years????? Probably higher.

OP, concentrate on UG first.

50 schools will probably yield 45-50 secondaries.

My high school did, the local one does.

Also, 50 schools would likely include a fair number of state schools, which tend to be very selective when it comes OOS applicants. The cost would be horrendous as well. 15 schools last cycle cost me around $2000 after primaries and secondaries. After IIs it was around $3000. I can't imagine what the cost for 50 schools would be.

Edit - Forgot to throw in the cost of a suit (old one was too small). So that puts it at ~$4000.

ace the mcat and you won't have to do anything like that

OP should worry about registering for first semester classes before worrying about secondaries.

:troll:

OP, love the name. Hope you can live up to it in two years. Seriously, over two year, you may even find out that you don't want to be a doctor. Congrats on finding SDN already. Pay attention, read more than you post and enjoy your first two years of college.
