There really isn't a lot of guidance available online related to this topic, so I thought I would ask here.
I am an early career psychologist at a major children's hospital with expertise in a specific medical population. I do not have an academic position at our associated medical college, but could apply now, as it wasn't standard practice when I got my job but also had numerous downsides that have changed in the last year. I am interested in applying to an open position that I think I could be a great fit for and would most likely accept if it worked out. They of course want cover letter, CV, and three references as an application. So my questions:
1) Do I write my cover letter on my current institutions letterhead (there are some very mixed answers out there)?
2) Do I submit my materials from my personal email or institution email? I used my personal email out of graduate school, internship, and fellowship since I knew I'd eventually lose access to the institutional email.
3) Thoughts on references -- I was going to ask a PhD level nurse scientist I do research and publish with, my fellowship supervisor who works with the same patient population and I continue to do research with, and ??? My department is huge, so the head definitely knows me but doesn't necessarily know my work. I do have a manager who I've worked closely with since starting at my position, but I worry about asking her this early in the process of applying. I could ask a colleague who I work with regularly (refer patients between our programs and involved in research) and is more advanced than me career wise but isn't my manager.
Any thoughts?
