Hi. Does it cost to apply to another training track of a program I already applied to? In other words, if I applied to the categorical track of program X, does it also cost if I now want to also apply to their research track?

Thanks.

I have been told by ERAS that it does not, however I can't confirm that. My program has a primary care and a categorical track, and applicants often change their minds in the application process.

However, if you do apply to a second track, it really doesn't do very much. The program already has all your data. You might just want to check with the program themselves. If you've been invited for an interview, I would simply mention that you are interested in the other track, and ask what you need to do. If you were rejected by the program, I doubt that applying to another track will change that decision.

It does not cost any more money to apply to more than one track. I agree w/ aProgDirector that most of the time it means nothing. One exception is if you're applying to a research pathway program that has a separate application (including a secondary), many of those places have different people looking at both parts of the app. If you only apply to the research pathway you may not get an interview for that but might have gotten one from the categorical spot. I did run into this in a couple of places last year. If you're just thinking that applying to the Categorical, Primary Care and Women's Health tracks will ensure that you get into a particular program, you're probably wasting your time.
