I just got my MCAT scores back, and unfortunately got a bit below average:

Total: 29Q
PS: 9
VR: 10
BS: 10

Now, I'm set to retake on July 17th. However, I feel that I may still be competitive with a 29 at some schools. So, here is my plan:

- Send my AMCAS within the next week to the 10 or so schools that I feel I would be competitive at.
- Study my ass off the next 6 weeks (goodbye, summer).
- Retake on July 17th.
- Once the next test's results return in mid August, send my AMCAS to higher-tier med schools and forward my new scores to those schools I've already applied to.
- Hope for the best.

First of all, is this plan even possible? Can you send the AMCAS to different schools at different times within the same application cycle? Secondly, would it be wise to do this? Or should I just wait until mid-late August to send my application to ALL the schools?

I'd greatly appreciate any feedback you guys may have. Thanks!

There is a question on AMCAS that asks "Do you plan to take the MCAT again between the dates of June 1st to September" or something like that. I don't know if what youre asking is possible, but theres a chance the schools you initially apply to will see your plans to retake and wait for scores before looking at your app.

send your application now and mark on the application that you are retaking. Theres a spot to do this at the very end.

Yes, you can go back into your AMCAS application and add additional schools at any time, pre- (which doesn't change your position in the "line") or post-transcript cerification, and/or after the MCAT score is released. You just have to pay for the additional schools at that time. It makes sense to wait on the more competitive schools until after you know if you have a real shot at them based on the new score.

The new score will be automatically released to the old schools without you doing anything.
