applying to LESS schools?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm applying to LESS schools this year than I did last year. Certain situations limit me to only a few schools, but do you guys/gals think I'm crazy? I need some opinions.

I am actually applying to less than I did the last time as well, I am just getting them in much earlier this time. I feel like I have improved my application enough that I could cut back on some schools that I didn't really want to go to. So if you are crazy, so am I.

The number of schools is not as important as the overall fit.
That being said, as a reapplicant, it is in your best interest to apply to as many schools as you can, where you have a good shot of getting an interview.

If you want more specific advice post your stats and the schools to which you are applying.

Well, if you applied to 20 schools last year, and are now applying to 2, I would say, yes you are crazy. Well, not crazy, but instead running a risk of participating in this same forum next year.

OTOH, if you applied to 50 schools last year, and have instead reduced the number by eliminating schools where you either have no chance or no interest in attending, then I'd say you're applying smartly. Similarly if you are geographically constrained for personal reasons.

Now, when you say "certain situations", don't let it be the application fees. The fees are short money in the long run.
