Applying to Loma Linda with DUI

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
just call them and ask what the process is

In the secondary App is asks about your history with Drugs / Alcohol, I guess you'd need to include that there. If you've made a big come back since then, and can show them that, it might not be an absolute deal breaker

if you say that you're willing to convert to their denomination, maybe it would make a difference...but forget selling out!!!! don't do it.

i've seen on sdn before where they ask stuff in their secondary apps like "would you be willing to accept our religion?" and stuff like that

Nowhere on my secondary application did it say anything like that. They make it very clear that while they are SDA, they do not attempt to recruit you to their church with the carrot of better admissions chances - though I'm sure it is a plus for them if you are a long time SDA.

While they require you to have spirituality (requiring a letter of rec from someone who can attest to your spirituality), it does not necessarily need to be Christian, and they write the questions on their secondary so a non-Christian could easily answer them.

One question was along the lines of "We do our best to live by the principles and teachings of Jesus Christ - how would you use similar principles in your career to make a difference with others?" Even if you know absolutely nothing about Christianity, it would take 10 minutes of wikipedia research to know what they are talking about and answer the question.

I hope that if anyone is interested in Loma Linda (since it really is a great school), they won't be discouraged by the thought that they will have to convert, because they won't.

Here are the official 2008 numbers:
http://www.llu.edu/llu/dentistry/admissions/documents/ddsprofile.pdf
chances for admission:
SDA: 1 out of 2.25
Non-SDA: 1 out of 76
Non-SDA w/DUI: 1 out of 1,000,000

You may not have to convert, but you must attend weekly services with the rest of the class. I agree with the previous poster, it seemed like a great school during my visit.

You left out 1 more category

SDA w/DUI: 1 out of 10,000,000, since if you claim to be SDA, drinking alcohol is not supposed to happen, that would be a pretty big black mark.
