Hey all,

Just wondering what any SMPers think about trying to apply to med school the summer before the SMP starts- good or bad idea? I know it is ideal to wait for the SMP final grades before applying-- but I'm sort of anxious to get going by then cuz I will have done a few years of post bac already and don't want to take another year to apply after the SMP if possible. Any advice on which SMPs (BU, Gtown, Tulane, ect) are conducive (or not) to people applying to med school that same year they are in the program?

Thanks!

G-town and RFUMS actually expect you to apply during the year. They encourage you to get as many secondaries out as possible before you attend.

BU and Loyola...you can apply during the same year but you're NOT encouraged to do so. In fact, they want you to take a glide year.

Tulane..I don't know.

If I go there, I plan on applying for 2006 matriculation regardless of whether they encourage me or not. I'm gonna call the program director to ask him a few questions though...I'll try to remember this particular question and bring that up.

You can also call him yourself; I've heard that he's really friendly and likes to talk to prospective students.
