Hi everyone,

I am planning on applying to med school next summer and I am trying to figure out when to apply. I know that applying as early as possible increases chances of acceptance significantly, but I am going to be spending most, if not all, of my 2013 summer doing medical work in another country. I won't go into specifics, but I'm going to be doing some projects that I believe will add a lot to my resume. I will probably have a "borderline-martriculant" level application when I apply, so I'm trying to get as many quality ECs possible. The only thing is, I'm not sure how I can include the medical work into my resume if I apply early 🙁.

I would really like to wait until around mid July to send in my AMCAS (so I can count 2 out of 3 months of the work), but I'm scared that waiting that long will jeopardize my chances of getting in. On the other hand, I feel my application will be a lot weaker without it.

Would applying in early/mid July be too late? Would it be possible for me to apply early and just list the amount of time that I will be spending in the description section? What should I do/ how can I max the amount of (time) credit I get for my EC?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Call me crazy, but I honestly don't think mid July is really 'late'.

Of course you have the people on here that submitted within the first couple days in June. From what I have gathered, mid July or so puts you about average in terms of people who will likely submit before you and those that will submit after you.

You won't be in the first round of interviews, but quite honestly I think it's a little over-hyped anyways. Submit by the end of July, and my guess is you'll be quite alright.
