i work along side a tech who is applying to medical school but my husband who is a dermatologist has told me its very competitive in the states to be anything but a family practioner or pediatriacian. she says she is not interested in pharmacy because it bores her and she has worked at the pharmacy for 4 years. her complaints include no respect as a pharmacist, drive thrus, lousy pay, and standing on her feet all day. i will be graduating with my pharmd in less than 5 months, since i am not yet a pharmacist i was wondering if there is any pharmacist here that can give me some advice to share with her. i just think she is not cut out to be a doctor and since she has 5 years of work experience as a pharmacist this will suit her better. Please help:scared:

thanks in advance.

Tech who's worked at a pharmacy for 4 years with 5 years of pharmacist experience applying to med school... classic.:meanie::meanie:

techs with 5 years experience are pharmacists, well thats at least what the ones i met think.

that was a mistype, it is as tech for 5 years, now any advice please.

it is pretty funny how the so "claimed" America's trusted profession gets no respect.

you put up with a lot of **** as a pharmacist. when i was deciding medicine vs pharmacy this was a big issue.

i say that is my biggest complaint. i liked knowing that people respected my work and what i did. this is what i liked about being a researcher b/c i knew my work was actually going to benefit someone.

How about we delete the duplicate thread?

Maybe you should let your friend pursue their goal and not try to change their mind just because it isn't what you would want 😕

Let them do whatever they want to do. Just because you think they should doesn't mean that they will change their mind.

I just realized that your the same person from that post about pharmacists pretty much becoming extinct. Why would you want her to become a pharmacist if you don't think that the field will be around for long?

i agree with this comment, pharmacist are not given any respect in america, we r basically clerks who ring out milk and razors all day. we get yelled at constatnly and have always to feel inferior to md's. you guys have given wonderful advice i will mention another field maybe chiropracting, please someone give me advice on this field. i would hate to force this tech in pharmacy and have her experience this ugly side of pharmacy in the states.. anyone have any idea about dentistry, i know they only make about 80,000 a year but i think they have mmore room for salary increase, please some advice sooner the better , i would like to read replies before i go to bed

thanks

Pharmacists no respect in America? I disagree. Just because a teacher has a few kids that disrespects her in the classroom, doesn't mean America does not respect teachers. Or just because a patient yells at a nurse, doesn't mean they are not respected. Pharmacists are respected.

I also do not ring milk and razors all day. Besides, there's more to pharmacy than retail.

I also do not feel inferior to MD's.

its good to hear there are a few people who have good experiences i was beginning to think pharmacy is a nightmare. have you found a lot of similar complaints among pharmacists you work for. these are experience that pharmacist have shared with me.

I don't think you are cut out to be a pharmacist.
Doesn't mean I have to give you advice about your chosen career.
If it bores her, then obviously she should do something else.
