Hey Guys, I used amcas gpa calculator to calculate my gpa, it is 3.51 (Bachelor of Physics Honors).

The cutoffs for most Canadian schools (MD program) are usually 3.6 and 3.7, so my chances are not great. As a result, I recently decided to browse through some american schools. I have found that my gpa is about average, source:

Assuming I do well on my mcat, (sept 11th), I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on what u.s. schools are recommended for canadian students (with my gpa). Furthermore, I have found that the deadline for a lot u.s. schools are in november/december. Could anyone please elaborate on how this deadline works? When should I start making my application? now?

Thank you in advance!

3.5 + Canadian.. = you need a mcat of like 34+ ( Don't take the september mcat unless you think you'll be scoring a high score, just study more), I also recommend highly applying early in the next cycle. For most US applicants applying late hurts then, for a Canadian it's simply going to kill you.

While yes your gpa is average, for an international student your stat will need to be better then the average applicant.

If your plan is to start in August of 2011, then you should get your primary AMCAS and all secondaries in before you receive your MCAT score in October. The American application cycle is a time race to be as early as possible. Ideally, stellar applicants have their primary applications in by June, all their secondaries finished by the end of July, get interview offers around the end of August/beginning of September and usually receive at least one acceptance letter by October/November. If you wait until November and December to apply, you will be considered a late applicant and your chances would be dismal. If you hurried and took care of everything by September/October, then you should have a chance. The earlier you are in the process, the greater are your chances at receiving an admission letter.

im gona start calling some of the u.s. schools and make a list

the question is, should I bother applying to american schools if I know I should be able to get into a top school in Caribbean such as st. george.

Well depends do you want to go to SGU which has around a 60% residency placement rate or an US medical school which are the best medical schools in the world? Please don't even attempt to rationalize that lol.

hmm, i will apply to both then and see what i get in the end.
