Right now I'm considering applying to UK's CoP without a B.S. in Biology because they do not require it. I will only be completing their pre-requisites plus added electives in the science field as well as others.
I have everything set up so I can still go back to my current college and finish up my degree (one more year) if I'm not accepted. But I do not want to get a B.S. if it's not necessary...I want to get into pharmacy school and get started.
So, here's my quesition: If I do not get in to UK's CoP when applying w/o the B.S. will it look bad on me when I apply after obtaining my degree? I know on the application they ask "Have you ever applied before?"...So do you all think this will affect me negatively in the long run?

Thanks!

Typically, I would say no. Most places want to see if you have made an effort to improve your app since the previous time you applied. I have had friends apply before getting their B.S. and not get in then reapply the following year to the same schools and get in. Its all about showing them that you are really interested in not only the degree/career but also their school and that you are willing to work for it... shown by your improvement or the things that you work on.

So you don't think I would be put on the back burner, so to speak? Especially "ignored" or put back when compared to say first time applicants?

If anything, it should work to your advantage. The students have better chances of getting in being a reapplicant. If you didn't have good GPA or PCAT score to begin with, then you can improve that or get more experience and explain yourself better to what you have done in the past year to make you a better, more qualified applicant.

I see that you have your heart set out to University of Kentucky, my only advice is to apply to more than just one school.

Thanks for the response and advice. I do plan to apply to several schools. A couple should be fairly "safe."
How schools is a good number to apply to? I don't want to get myself in over my head with asking for LORs and writing essays.

Thanks!

I go to UK and there are quite a few people in my class without degrees. There are lots with degrees as well. Some of us even have advanced degrees. Are you a Ky resident? I think most of the people from out-of-state have their BA/BS

I only applied to UK. But I do have an advanced degree and higher than average stats. I didn't feel like I was a shoo-in though. They put a lot of emphasis on the interview.

Hey!
Yes, I am a KY resident and go to a small KY private KY college (you may know the one I'm talking about) that has "ties" to UK. Any tips you can give me since you attend UK? What do I really need to have stats wise, and what else do I need to do to be in the category "extremely likely to be accepted" with and ED application in.
Interview? Any tips for it? What are they looking for in the interview since they put a lot of emphasis on it?

Thanks!

I'm not aware of a college with ties, but I'm familiar at least with most the institutions in Ky. I don't know that there is a magic combination of stats though.

I need to think about the answer to your interview question. In the meantime, please check SDN's interview feedback section as I know that there is some stuff on there that could help you.

Thanks for the response, again. lol
Also, thanks for taking the time to think about an answer that will help me with my question about the interview.
