hey guys,
can i still apply this cycle since i only have one more pre-req to go? because i won't be able to graduate spring 2007 if i'm going to do a bachelors in biology ( i am currently in the process of transferring schools due to personal family issue... and now i can't graduate as planned.. 🙁 ) but i still wanted to give it a shot as applying without a bachelors. if i get in somewhere, then i just go to dental school with just pre-dent pre-reqs and other random courses to fill my senior year. if not.. then i don't get in. and i apply next cycle. is this possible?

You can totally do it. Look at me, i don't have any BS and i got in just fine. Do well in your Prereqs and on the DAT. Also prove your knowledge of dentistry buy observing a lot or get a job at an office. You'll be fine.

Edit: what do you mean by 'this cycle' ? cuz if you're trying for the class of 2010 then i think its over with. if your trying for 2011 then you can finish your BS right before school starts from what your saying

I am another one that won't have a BS entering dental school in august. In your case I would definitely do it this way because if you do apply and get rejected then you know the process and know what to correct and its not like you lost a year, you can just return to undergrad and finish up your degree. also, check into possibly receiving your BS after your first year of dental school. This is what I am doing just for some personal satisfaction in hoping that my 115 credit hours don't go to waste.

They didn't go to waste, they got you into dental school! 😀

very true, and that was my ultimate goal for undergrad but now that i've got in and am so close to graduating (115 out of 125 needed to graduate) it would be nice to have that little piece of paper. But then again i did get in and that makes me happy! 😀

im also planning on going to dental school with a BS, u think graduating with a 3.8+ with 20+ across the board DAT will get me in one year early, if i apply and dont get in, will those stats be considered competetive the next cycle since i had already replied and got rejected?

if i do get in early i plan on getting my BS when im 70 and retired hehehe

Those stats are great in any cycle year. if you do get rejected definitely find out exactly why because it won't be due to those scores. if you find yourself with extra time maybe do some more shadowing but your outlook looks good. good luck 👍

sorry, i meant WITHOUT a BS

Last cycle, I applied at several schools and was denied at all of them because I did not have a degree. It is possible to gain admission early, but it all depends on the schools you will be applying to and their thoughts on early applicants. If I were you, I would call the deans at the schools you are planning to apply to and explain you situation and get their input. Also, in case you're wondering, I had very similar stats to yours with tons of experience, good LORs, and research.

hokiedds im assuming ur gonna apply again this upcoming cycle, how do u think ud do this time since ull have a degree, will the previous application hurt u, cuz with ur scores ur sure to get in now with a degree, right? even though u already got rejected once

Yes I'll definitely be applying again this cycle and I'm feel that I have a much better chance this time around. Everyone I've spoken to says that applying and getting rejected, especially in my situation where it was an age issue, will not hurt you when you reapply and can even help because it shows your dedication. I'm glad I decided to apply last cycle even though I didn't get in...it was a great experience, I learned alot about the process and about schools that should really help me this time around. If you think you've got a shot, I would say to go for it. One thing, most of the private schools are more open to accepting early applicants, so if you just want to get in and you don't really care where, I would apply to as many of those as you can.

I was referring to the fact that I was applying as a junior and was younger than most applicants. The way I said it was a little misleading...I don't think I was rejected because I wasn't old enough, it was because I didn't have my degree. Sorry for the confusion.

its good to hear that applying early wasn't a waste. i had a friend in similar standing but he was a little younger and had only completed the bare minimum classes required. he was told that he didn't necessarily need to graduate but that he should take more upper level classes to become more competitive. i think it helped me that i'm only 10 credit hours short and had taken a good amount of upper level courses. good luck next cycle, it looks like everything will work out for you 😀

cool. thanks guys. i was just a little bit nervous... because i thought 100% i was going to graduate spring 2007 with a bachelors and hopefully start dental school that fall...but due to personal family circumstances.. i not only have to transfer to another school ... but might not graduate with a degree. i'm still definitely going to apply this cycle...whether i get in or not... at least i'll get the experience.... thanks for the advice guys!~
