There is a question on MyERAS under profile which has YES/NO option asking if ECFMG certificate has been received. If someone is taking step 2 CS late August then obviously the option in answering the question above is NO.

My question is, would that make applicants application "invisible" to programs who have ECFMG certificate as requirement even though the programs DO mention that CS passing is required for by match and not by application date?

If you mark that you don't have your certificate, programs that use that factor to filter applications, will not look at yours.

Nope. This information is not published anywhere in a central location. You have to ask the programs before you apply as it is becoming increasingly common.

Agree with WS. Remember that your ECFMG status is part of your Profile, not your CAF. Therefore, you can update it any time you want. Once your ECFMG comes through, you can switch it to yes, and the next time programs access the post office, it will switch on their side also.

Remember that you must have all of the Steps complete by ROL deadline, or you will be withdrawn from the match.

Also, this will delay your visa application (should you need one), as ECFMG is absolutely necessary for both an H and J visa.

Thanks for the response PD. I already have Step 1 done and dusted with. CK and CS will be taking care for in a few weeks 😱

I don't have to worry about visas as I am a US citizen (studying in London).

Thanks for the response. Sorry to sound stupid--I'm a little late in on this game. I've rescheduled for the 3rd week in January--the earliest date available now. Will I get results back in time to not get removed from the match? And results have to be back to me to not get removed, right?

If you take the test in the 3rd week of January, 2009 your score will be reported on April 1st at the earliest. You need to take the test by December 31st, 2008 in order for your scores to be back in time.
