Hi All!

I want to apply during cycle 2015 and know it's RATHER early for me to talk about it. I'm debating either taking 4 easy classes, or only 2 easy classes (so that I can maximize MCAT study time) and pushing the remaining 2 to summer 2015. Would it be bad if I waited to finish the summer classes and then applied around August or should I just apply anyway while taking the classes? Basically I need those classes to improve my GPA.

I wanted to know now so that I can figure out how to arrange my fall schedule so that I can maximize MCAT study time. Thanks!

Fairly certain you just apply as early as you can in the cycle (you said you want to improve your GPA so I'm assuming your GPA is below average and having an early application started is a plus since you need all you can get) and then put in that you're taking classes over the summer as well. After you've taken them, you update your application with the new grades and go from there. I'm sure someone will tell you this at some point, but pretty much nobody recommends taking classes while studying for the MCAT, but if you absolutely must do so, then you will definitely want to cut down to as few classes as possible to put all of your efforts into the MCAT studying while not sacrificing your class grades which in your situation sound equally important. Personally I highly wouldn't recommend taking 4 classes and think you'll have enough time to study for the MCAT appropriately as well.

Thank you very much 🙂 That is what I thought but just wanted to be sure.

Applying 2015 cycle as well. I'm taking only 6 credits while doing a Princeton review course at MSU for the MCAT. I may take summer classes but since I have probably a full semester to do, I may just do them during my gap year (fall 2015) instead. But now that you mention it, taking a course or two in the summer may be a good way to boost GPA a little.
