Applying with a Masters Degree

Ok, I Graduated from Texas A&M with a horrible GPA, but a ton of experience (licensed paramedic, ICU and ER Tech 4 + years, 2 years as an in-charge with the nations second best 911 EMS and most aggressive). I did not even get an interview. I talked with some addmissions folks and they all recomended grad school. So here it is, I'm applying again. I have a 4.0 currently with a semester to go with a Masters in Biology. My MCAT is good also. Is any one else out there in this postion or have some insight as to what I should expect this time around?

If your mcat score is 30+, expect interviews if you apply to a lot of moderately competitive schools. To get interviews at very competitive schools, you need a 37+ mcat score and you also need to apply VERY EARLY.

Not true. I didn't have a score that high and I got interviews at most of the top 10 schools to which I applied. I also know people with low 30s who were accepted at top 5 schools (non-URMs).

Did these people have a horrible undergrad GPA?

wow, 37 mcat...naah beg to differ. My friend had a 2.7 undergrad biochem gpa, did a postbac, got a 3.3, and got a 26mcat and is in med schl right now

If you read my post CAREFULLY you would have noticed that I said he/she would need a 37+ to get into VERY COMPETITIVE SCHOOLS. Unless your friend was an URM he/she did not get into A VERY COMPETITIVE SCHOOL with a 2.7 undergrad and 3.3 post-bacc GPA. Especially not when he/she got a 26 on the mcat.

lotanna read the post carefully enough...perhaps more carefully than you had yourself. What you said is that this person needs a 37+ MCAT to get an interview at a "very competitive school" (not "get into"), and this is simply not the case.

All medical schools are very competitive by the way, and people accepted to top five schools are frequently denied by "bottom tier" medical schools for one reason or another.
