I know that there is a section on the AAMCAS application that allows you to list courses in progress or that you plan to take but how many is too many? Will have these courses in progress or yet to take look really bad on my app or is it pretty routine for a lot of premeds?

Traditional premeds apply the summer between their junior and senior year, so it's very common.

i am applying with courses in progress. i am having my professors in those courses submit a letter of prgress detailing my performance on the first set of exams directly to the school i am applying to. this way they see my name more often and also it keeps them informed as to how i am doing.

It is the norm but your acceptance letter (if all goes well) often states, "Your acceptance is contingent upon satisfactory completion of your coursework stated in your application". Great letter but you have to complete what you state in your application or have a good reason for not doing so.

Still, that acceptance letter is sweet...👍

Most traditional medical school applicants will have courses in progress while applying and will be accepted during the spring of their senior year. It is not that unusual to have courses that have to be finished before matriculating into medical school. The problem may arise where you list your courses in progress and then not finish them for some reason.

It is not that unusual for a senior traditional accepted medical school applicant to have three or four courses to complete in order to graduate. What you do not want to do, is list coursework that you can't finish for what ever reason and have your acceptance revoked. That scenario has played out too.

I'm currently taking the organic chemistry lab during the application year, which my advisor has assured me is not a problem at all. In fact, it was on her advice that I chose to do so.

I didn't list my current courses on AMCAS.

I'm taking a year of physics lab and a semester of chemistry lab to finish my requirements this year. Will med schools ask me about that, or will they assume I'm applying without those prereqs at all??

Now I'm worried. 🙁
