Hi!
I applied to dental schools last year and didnt hear any positive news, but i did pursue my MPH in epidemiology during that time and have just completed the first out of 2 years of the program. When I apply this year for the 2021 cycle, I will be applying with one year of courses and research. I was just wondering how much this 1 year is going to make a difference in my application. And when I apply, will they ask for my fall transcript?
Any input is welcomed!!
Thank you!!

What were your stats before when you applied?

Big Hoss

I got a 19AA (TS 20) on my DAT, and i have a GPA of 3.2. This was the second time i have taken the DAT. The first time that I took it I got an AA of 16 (TS 16). After consulting a few advisors, they said that the big jump in my score is a positive point and that i dont need to take it again, because that was another concern of mine.

I posted on here that I wanted to get a MPH before applying to dental school and I was basically told it was a waste of time and useless. This forum is so interesting sometimes (no I didn’t need a masters for grades it was just to have a MPH)!

Definitely include your transcript from the classes you've taken thus far. They're going to want to know what you have done between the last time you applied and now. It may help to improve your GPA as well.

Do you actually want to work in public health or did you pursue just as a way to make yourself more competitive on applications?

MPH got me more money in job offers at every FQHC I interviewed at. If you want to go into public health it's definitely worthwhile

Thanks for replying!
In a way yes i do want to work in public health, but still as a dentist. But I also did it because a few advisors said that this will help with the low GPA

Then absolutely use your transcript and talk about it in personal statement and supp. application essays

Did it help you with dental school admissions?

I got it while I was in dental school so I can't say for sure. But I would think it could be very beneficial if applying to the schools that put emphasis on community health (like MOSDOH or ASDOH)
