I plan on applying during next years cycle. I graduated last December with a business degree (obviously wasn't premed) and have been working on all my pre-reqs ever since. My question is...if I have only completed Gen Chems, Gen Bios, Org 1&2, and physics 1&2 (with biochem, cell, couple others listed as "to be taken"), but everything else on my application looks good, and I apply in June, do I have a decent shot?

I can only speak from my experience. I finished my degree in January of this year, studied for the MCAT, and applied in June/July. My degree was in Economics and Business but I had taken the required pre-reqs just like you. So far this year I have 4 acceptances, and still have to hear back from 8 schools. Apply broadly, apply EARLY and assuming your MCAT and GPA are in line, you should be okay. Other people might say different, but this was my experience.

i agree. my degree was in political science. i've been accepted at both allo and osteo schools. apply early and good luck!

There is hope!!! lol. if you guys dont mind me asking, what were your stats? gpa and mcatwise?

I've actually heard from more than one doctor that knowing something about business is a really good thing. Many physicians do not know how to run a private practice even if they wanted to, or how to really "sell" themselves. I think it's only to your credit that you have some background knowledge. 🙂 Good luck!

From my understanding, most schools don't care about your degree as long as you have the pre-reqs done. They won't hold it against you and might look more favorably that you decided to choose another major than the typical bio or chem.

I got in with a psychology degree and only the pre-reqs. There are a lot of people in my class that weren't bio or chem majors. Some of this stuff is completely new to me, but I'm doing fine.

I am a business major and have 4 interviews so far. I have mostly only pre-reqs. Also the MCAT will show them that you can perform at the level they expect. They re-teach you everything anyways so you won't be missing anything.

I would make an extra effort to have enough EC's (volunteering, shadowing, clubs) Schools may look at these a little bit closer from a non-science major.
(just my opinion)
