Help, I have had a year break in schooling due to huge medical issue setback which most schools I noticed ask if there is a setback for poor grades, I retook calculus, organic 2, and anatomy and physiology, had to finish however i could for chemo....anyways 3.1 gpa got the minimum pre-req for all schools that dont need a BS or BA, was wondering how many students have applied without Bachelor's I know a few students who have at my job...

Over 3000 hours in optometry as tech and ophthalmic tech as well (worked for like 5-6yrs)

Have not taken OATs, if I score high do I have chances or should I do another year or so and get my degree first?

OptomCas ready to go and already sent for LOR and transcripts but saw a pre-health advisor and now having doubts....

Your GPA is on the low end for applying without a bachelor's. I came out of my bachelor's with a 3.4 and thought it was too low, so I completed a master's before applying to optometry school (to strengthen my GPA and my application). To be honest, I'm not sure how schools feel about the fact that you had a medical emergency. I would probably email some of the schools you are planning on applying to before you do and explain your situation, see what they suggest you do.

Never believe what pre-health advisors tell you. They're absolutely awful.

Yeah I think hewasmore interested at me staying at FIU for longer, he kept talking about the school getting brownie points and better stats if they have more graduates....well it was cancer and I'm fine now. i have talked to NSU plenty they seem to be fine with everything and said go ahead and apply haven't talk to other schools. Resident of FL so only called local so far.

They're really nice there. I live in Tampa and I've spoken to them a few times.

It's becoming fairly rare to get accepted without a degree. But based on your passage above, I think you may want to take a few more english/grammar classes. The admission committee would see this and instantly turn you down. Try some periods and proper sentence structure. I know it's just the internet but no reason to get sloppy.

Sorry, I was writing from my phone. We are here to help fellow students, not to bash them. Yes, I am an immigrant and with five languages English being last to learn it isn't easy. When the time is right, I write correctly but when writing from my phone with a screaming infant in my lap it wasn't the right time and that day I didn't have any other time available. Thank you for your helpful input.
