I'm currently a sophomore in college, my gpa is 3.9, i'm doing research with my professors, and I also volunteer at the hospital. I want to apply to pharmacy, but what are my chances if I apply before getting my bachelors degree. By the time I apply, I will be finishing up my last 2 prerequisites. What should I do?

Great job ib GPA!!
No need bachelor degree. Check the school you wanna get in, than check classes you are missing. See how many semesters it will take you to finish.
When I started undergraduate I was carefully and slowly moving to get a bachelor, just in case. But I should of do 3 years to finish it instead of 4 years

"What should I do?".....Apply

but would my chances decrease without having a degree?

Apply ASAP. There's no point in wasting money on another year of undergrad, not to mention the year of lost salary. Not many schools require a degree, if one does just go somewhere else.

I spent 4 years in college and then took another gap year because I didn't know what I wanted to do. Imagine if I did 2 years of undergrad... that's an extra 360k of pretax income and 20k less spent in undergrad. That's insane.

^Yes. Apply now, like now. Finish and submit your app tonight/tomorrow. I am sure some schools/especially quite a few expensive schools are not close to filled up. And will be looking to fill those spots, however they can. Just apply ASAP, as said above.

I was looking into Western, Loma Linda, UOP, or Marshall B
Check some are not accredited. I think schools that extended their applications until lol April 1 are not worth it. Wait until July and apply for next cycle early decision. Thus no rush now, transcripts will be on time.
Btw, what about pcat?

I was going to apply in the upcoming fall cycle. So I can take my pcat during the summer or by September

🙂 study hard for PCAT now. With your GPA and hopefully getting a great PCAT, you can find cheaper schools

Yes you can apply without bachelors. I am a sophomore and I recently got accepted to an instate public school. I'm just finishing my pre reqs. And yes they required the PCAT. If I can do it, u can do it too.

A lot of schools admit many applicants without degrees, and so it is not uncommon at all. Having the degree is helpful, but not necessary. Given that you have a high GPA, it seems like you would be an ideal candidate as long as you score well on your PCAT and finish up your prerequisites with high grades. Best of luck!

Is it more advantageous if you have a bachelors degree before applying?

It can be. Definitely if it is a related natural science, but not necessarily if it is a like a liberal arts type.

How are you a sophomore getting accepted already? Don't you have a decent amount of pre-reqs left? ie biochem, upper bio(physio and micro), ochem II? What was your GPA and how did you study for the PCAT because you must have been pretty busy if your prereqs are near finished.

My school does not require biochem. I have already taken both anat and phys (I and II) and I'm currently taking microbio, gen chem 2(that's the order after orgo), and phys 2. I have taken o chem both I and II already. I had to take 3 science courses last sem and now this sem. My gpa is now a 3.74 and PCAT I took early in the sem (September) I got 92 composite. It wasn't easy but it was possible.

That's so impressive!

A bachelor's degree means almost nothing in pharmacy unless you want to pursue dual degrees like PharmD/MBA or PharmD/MPH. It may be more impressive that you've obtained a high GPA with that many courses. I applied my junior yr b/c I needed experience, but I wished I had applied my sophomore yr. I applied to only my top choice program (top 3 school) and got in. If you're worried, apply broadly. But with your stats, even 3-4 of your top choice schools will suffice.

I would advise that you complete your undergraduate degree, but do not take a gap year. Gap years are horrible, especially if you know that you are more than good enough at getting admitted and could have spent that year in pharmacy school instead of being stuck in a limbo.
