I have completed my year bio sequence with lab. However looking ahead at my timeline (MCAT in April 2011, apply spring 2011), I don't think i'll have time before at least next fall to take the "recommended" bios like genetics, etc.

Is this worth worrying about? Can I mention in interviews *if i get any* that i'm still taking these "recommended" courses?

PS- I'm a non-trad applying to all DO schools. My undergrad was in Poli Sci. Finishing pre-reqs while working full-time.

Hey, I'm in the same boat (Poli Sci major, as well). I will be able to take one upper level Bio class, and I hope that doesn't hurt me. I doubt it will hurt you on the MCAT, and I HOPE it doesn't hurt us on admissions, and I don't think it will.

I was an Econ major in college and I didn't take anything but Biochem after the required basic sciences. I have gotten 6 interviews and an acceptance so far this cycle. Don't worry about your lack of upper division bio if you have a decent gpa and mcat you will be fine.

taking them might increase your chances of getting in. KCUMB COM requires genetics and biochem. i'm sure some of the others have additional requirements too. might be worth it to try and squeeze in a few more classes.

Yeah, I think it's a school by school thing. Some require it, while most don't.

If you look closely at the catalog, you'll see that some schools don't even check the "recommended" box, so there should be no worries from your end. Just keep in mind MSU and Kansas (perhaps another?) require some of the "recommended" upper division courses.
