Inaugural Meeting: Chicago 2005

On behalf of the American Physician Scientists Association it is our pleasure to invite you to the Inaugural Conference of APSA held on April 15-17th in Chicago, Illinois. This conference provides an exceptional opportunity to bring together future physician-scientists with leaders in the field from the American Society of Clinical Investigation to exchange ideas and information as well as for students to pursue mentorship and professional advice. The value of one-on-one interactions with other members of the physician scientists in training and the exposure to current physician are invaluable resources, and as such, APSA has decided to focus on the use of regional meetings in various parts of the country to provide these same forums of interactions and discussion in a highly accessible fashion.

In this first meeting we are honored to be holding the meeting in conjunction with the ASCI, giving our APSA attendees complete access to both APSA and ASCI events. To further one-on-one interactions with leading physician-scientists. attendees will have the opportunity to present their scientific research at the ASCI Poster Session. In addition to this prime presentation time, we have spent a great deal of time in conjunction with ASCI to provide the very best of opportunities to network and learn from other colleagues in your field as well as listen to exceptional speakers and learn from their experiences. The substantial program includes a “meet the professor” symposium as well as a coordinated luncheon arranged around various table topics to facilitate career networking. Also, to continue addressing career issues, two of our panel discussions focus on the balance between career and personal life as well as finding and being a mentor in the sciences.

The full combined tentative agenda for the meeting is posted on our website (http:www.physicianscientists.org/Meetings.html). Each event is labeled with its sponsoring organization. Please note that the ASCI Meeting will take place at the Fairmont Hotel (April 15,16), while the APSA Meeting will take place on Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (April 17). These two locations are about 3/4 of a mile apart in downtown Chicago. Conference registration is now open at a reduced price of $32.00 and is available at this web address: http://www.physicianscientists.org/RegistrationChicago2005.html. Please come out and have a wonderful time with us and your colleagues from across the nation. We look forward to seeing you there.
