Are these same as Neuroendocrine cells and Neuroendocrine tumors?

Confused.

APUD is a general term (older) term for neuroendocrine cell types based on their staining characteristics which are capable of Amine and Precursor Uptake and Decarboxylation.

This term is not much used now-a-days but instead more specific term like neuroendocrine cell is used.

They mostly originate from the neural crest except the intestinal and respiratory tract which are derived from endoderm.

So, APUDoma are Neuroendocrine tumors.
