someone with a usmle first aid step 1, pleeez make a summary of the arches and pouches and post it. my book is in possesion of a friend, and he is no where to find. thanx in advance.

Meckels Cartilage, mandible, malleus, incus, sphenoMandibular ligament.

Anterior belly of diagastric,

CN 5 ( remember M for BA 1)


BA 2

Reichers Cartilage, stapes, Styloid process, Lesser horn of hyoid
Stylohyoid ligament,

Muscle
Muscle of facial expression
Stapedius,
Stylohoid,
Posterior belly of diagastric ( remeber S for this arch)

Nerve CN 7


BA 3
Greater horn of hyoid
muscle,Stylopharyngeus
CN 9

BA 4-6
cartilage; thyroid, cricoid, arytenoid, corniculate, cuneiform

Muscle 4th arch : most pharyngeal constrictors,cricothyroid, levator veli palatini

Muscle 6th arch;all intrinsic muscle of larynx except cricothyroid

Nerve; 4th arch CN 10 superior laryngeal
6th arch CN 10 recurrent laryngeal

arch 5 has no major development.

Pouch Derivatives

1st; middle ear, eustachian tube, mastioid air cell
2nd epithelial lining of platine tonsil.
3rd dorsal wing develops in to inferior parathyoid
3rd ventral wing - developed in to thymus.
4th superior parathyroid
