OP, understand that medicine (like many other careers), is a big life decision that requires immense dedication and sheer will. Don't get into it simply on the basis of respect, money (real estate is where the real $$$ is anyway...), pride, or parental approval. You'll be miserable everyday at work if those are the reasons. Do what YOU love, and love what YOU do... 😉
If ID is truly what you want to do, then go for it. But bear in mind that getting into a T20 isn't the end all be all. There are MANY schools that aren't T20 with very respectable programs that may even be more suited to YOUR particular liking. Attending a medical school is on its own something to be proud of, regardless of "ranking". 🙂
