Hi all,

I'm filing my amcas and noticed hat I had a course called scientific writing; the class was offered by the biology department but mainly focused on scientific argumentation rather than a traditional biology course.

Would you classify this course as a science GPA course because of the department it was in or e would you classify it as AO as writing was the primary focus?

Your clarification would be appreciated.

If the school classifies the course as a bio course, you can classify it as a bio course for AMCAS. You can also ask your pre-med advisor for clarification about the course classification, just in case you want another opinion. Based on a few words included in your message, it appears reasonable to classify the course as a bio course: it was offered by the biology department and it focused on scientific argumentation (evidence-based reasoning, etc.)

If AMCAS does not agree with the classification, AMCAS will re-classify it.

Thank you.

I am grateful for both of your posts! I was hoping to classify the class in my AO gpa because it was mostly writing (75%) and writing; I received a lower than anticipated grade as a result (B+) and would also like to classify it as AO to maximize my science gpa.

Overall, if I classify it either way, I should be fine right since it's a borderline course?

Thank you once again for your clarification .

Classify it AO
Agreeand now that you've provided additional classification ... yes, classif the course as AO.

Thank you.

Agreed ... (and agree with @gonnif, too).

Now that you've provided additional classification concerning the actual content (i.e., writing) of the course - yes - classify the course as AO.

Thank you.
