Are any foreign schools equivalent to US schools?

My friend went from the US to Semmelweis University in Hungary after dropping out of his freshmen year of college. He said they have rotations in the U.S.? He also said they are accredited in Cali? Looking online, this seems to be true. But I thought the general advice here was stay in the US if you want to practice in the US. So my question is, are there certain foreign schools that are essentially looked upon the same as US MD schools?

No school is looked upon the same as US schools if they are located overseas. The closest thing would probably be the schools in israel that have some sort of NYS linkage for residency that gives them a pretty good match each year. The rest.... not so much. Rotating in the US is really not a huge deal... even Trinity (carribean) rotates in maryland...but we know the story with Carribean schools.

I cant be sure about equivalency but all of the docs I've worked with from the UK were very well trained.

Goro, if I had to choose between a US DO or one of those schools and was interested in a competitive speciality and wanted to practice in the US, which would you recommend?

If one's academic record forces one to go overseas, then they're not going be in the top 20% of MD students who go into the uber residencies.

Just want to be sure that a common misconception is explained. No one is saying that other countries don't train amazing physicians. There are many schools in other countries across the world that make hard working, intelligent doctors. However, for the purposes of matching into residency in the United States residency match, those doctors would be at a disadvantage as compared to US trained doctors.
