Lurking around on SDN, it seems that the 17-18 average I've heard so much about simply cannot be true... Many of the postings on here seem to be scores in the 20's. Are DAT score averages going up? There just seem to be so many people getting 24+'s on their DAT!

No one brags about getting under 20. You're also seeing a small sample size here

Yeah, SDN is not a good representative of the average, BUT I think it is going up. Test prep materials are getting better and better. SDN provides a ton of advice and breakdowns. It only makes sense that the average will start going up. Some school websites mention it too.

Yeah the most recently published DAT score tables are from 2009. I'd be very curious to see what the percentile distributions look like now.

It is definitely going up and my DAT score doesn't make me feel special anymore since so many people on SDN gets 23+, though I know SDN is only a small sample size of entire applicant pool. Wonder what percentile I am in right now as of 2015 lol

I believe at my school only 1 person got a 23 last year or something. They scored higher in the MCAT area but I guess less predental kids.

I highly doubt percentiles have changed drastically.

Just because accepted averages have slightly shifted up means nothing about the distribution of the entire population.

Where's @doc toothache with that excel sheet showing differences in recent years?

It sure seems like it lol. But honestly I think its just most people on here only post when they are good/amazing scores. That and the combination of the avg DAT to get into dental school is going up.
