I was doing some research and I was told that some schools
have shortened their hours (i.e. till 12 or 1 pm) and others continue
until 5p.
Someone mentioned this to me NYCOM shortened their day but I would like
to know what the schedules are like for other schools.
I've tried searches the sites but I just can't find it.

PCOM is generally 8a-5p

Anyone know class times at TCOM?

UNECOM varies according to the block. During gross you're there generally 8-5. Once done with that, one or two days 8-4 or 5, the others done at 3. thursday afternoons are clear unless you have a preceptorship (usually once a month). So Thursdays are 8-12. But like I said, it changes depending on your block schedule.

umdnj-som is usually from 9 am (though last semester we did have histo 8 am once a week) til around 3-5 pm dep on the day. last semester fridays we got out earlier but this semester we get out on 4 pm on fridays. the only free time is usu lunch (noon - 1 pm) which is when clubs hold their events alot of times. this semester we also have days w/ "indep study" 4 micro and neuro when we don't have 2 go 2 class (like this mon so we have a 3 day weekend basically).

nsu 8-3 mostly...one day a weeek its 8-5...and also every other week on fridays its 8-noon

What are NYCOM's hours? For those who commute, I wish it would start later, rather than end later.

NYCOM
for at least the last 2 years the first year lecture based learning followed this schedule:
Mon/Wed/Fri approx 8am-noon
Tue/Thurs approx 8am-5pm

labs are usually Mon/wed. sometimes you will not have class that day if your lab group is not scheduled.

commuting to an 8am class is generally less traffic than a 9am start.

OP: I don't see how NYCOM could shorten their days for 1st years. anything is possible.

Allopathic schools are generally NOT 9-5 from what I have seen.

because i'm wondering why the difference. i personally don't want to sit in class all day. don't get so fired up!

I did not see any fire in my short question. It did not seem like you were asking a question in your first post.

Many Osteopathic schools don't follow the 5day/week 9am-5pm schedule.

The first year at LECOM -B starts out with 10 weeks of lecture based anatomy, histology, and embryology which is 8am - 5pm.

After the first 10 weeks, we have PBL M,W,F for two hours, either 8am-10 or 10am-12, with occasional shadowing commitments in the afternoon.

T and Thurs usually run 8-noonish and consist of OPP, Clinical exam, and various mini courses (ie. Public Health, Geriatrics, Ethics, etc.).

The seeming "free" time in the schedule is not really free, since PBL requires so much reading time outside of class. I do prefer it to all day lectures though...

UMDNJ is incorporating much more small group/ independent study into the new curriculum from what I have been told, and seen since they have started to put it in. Of course you always have the option of not going to most of your classes and just studying on your own if that works best, it is nice to have the lectures available if you need them or want them. Remember that Osteopathic schools have extra classes that Allopathic schools don't like OMM and we have some pretty time intensive patient dynamics, diagnosis, ethics classes.

Touro-NV is mostly 8am-4pm or 5pm, but during days we have OMM lab there are a couple hours off since the class is split in half, also we have histology lab on a little over half of the Fridays were the class is split into three so we only have about 2 hours of class. They are working on lowering the in class time so it might change even more next year

it varies by school and if the there are non-mandatory classes then the hours are whenever you feel like getting your work done
