I'm Dominican and I was just wondering if that would qualify me as an URM?

Are Dominicans Hispanic?
That was a dose of sarcasm speedy
Not necessarily. The original hispanic UIM's include Mexican Americans and mainland Puerto Ricans. Each school now decides if communities they serve are under-represented. Thus, it will vary by school.I'm Dominican and I was just wondering if that would qualify me as an URM?
I realized that after i replied..
The AAMC definition seems to be saying that those four groups are historically underrepresented, and the initiatives will continue to strive to bring access to those specific groups but it is not all-inclusive to those four groups. I think that may be somewhat of a disclaimer to the people who argue that Mexican Americans are now growing in population exponentially and should not be considered underrepresented anymore, same for blacks, and is there to say 'hey this was our mission because they were prior to 2003, and we will continue this mission regardless'....still not exclusive to just those four groups.Yeah you'd qualify as URM at most schools I believe.
Lol no worries about the sarcasm, I think it's good that you asked. There are probably several visitors to this site who were wondering the same thing but weren't brave enough to register and ask. Even the AAMC official definition is a bit confusing, only mentioning Mexican-Americans and mainland Puerto Ricans explicitly as URM.
No, it's not saying that. What it's saying is that previously only mexican and mainland puerto ricans were URM. Now it's up to the schools to decide.Yeah you'd qualify as URM at most schools I believe.
