NYU is done in January? So much for that. 🙁 UMich has given out all of their interview invites as well, I'm not sure how much longer they'll go for though, maybe 2-3 weeks?

I think it's important to think about each individual school. Most are still interviewing for actual seats, but there are a few out there that are announcing it is for wait list only. I think that even if a school is interviewing for the wait list, if it is one that you really love you should go and give it all you've got. You could very well knock it out of the park and be the first person on that wait list. If you go in with a defeatist attitude, you are sure to fail.

On a personal note, I have gotten more interview action in the last week than I had gotten all year up to that point (while at one, got invites for two others, and a few days later a LOR request that may very well end up as an invite from my state school). This may very well be because I am a weaker applicant, so I am just now getting looked at a second time, but schools are definitely still considering files.

I think its in reference to that fact that the huge majority of OOS are really only ever put on the wait list, even if they interviewed on the first day. The super stars might get an acceptance, but most can hope to be pulled of the wait list once interviews are done.

I can confirm that NYU is definitely done by the end of Jan. I called them to schedule and 1/31 is their last interview date... surprisingly and frustratingly early.

For Ohio State, according to my friend (a med student who gives tours) they've been told that interviews will stop around about the end of the quarter (mid-Marchish). I do not know if all the interview appointments have been given out yet or not.

It seems to me that the schools that stop interviewing in February are giving out the last invites around the end of January. Obviously it goes school by school though.

I think this is probably the case. Schools will always go with the top applicants first, and now that they've interviewed and accepted this segment, they'll start reaching down further into their apps. Whether this means you're interviewing for the waitlist or not is not clear to me. But I think the weaker applicant shouldn't get too discouraged yet, because as scowdeva notes, a lot of schools will wait until their applicant pool is complete before taking a second look at the borderline folks.

Love how they just say "Michigan." As if there's only one Michigan med school. How bout Michigan State? How about if one of the Florida or Texas schools just said thanks for considering Texas?
