Do schools expect you to write one? Is not writing one post interview you saying that I really dont want to go to this school?

I just feel like I got waitlisted at a school because they might not have thought I was too serious about attending, although that was NOT the case and I did very well in the interview.

I highly doubt its expected...IMO, it should really only be used if you absolutely want to go there and seriously do not expect to change your views on that. The only real reason that I could see going back on it is if you get like a full ride to a different school or something

It's not expected at all, IMO. Just write one if you're really interested in the school.

I thought interest was for pre-interview so you could get an interview (if the school accepts it), and intent was for post-interview if that's the school you really want. No?

oh sorry, i was talking about a letter of intent!

Interest is fine, but I doubt its expected. I feel like thank you notes are more expected than interest letters

If you are seriously interested in a school (and hopefully you are since you applied), shouldn't you do everything in your power to leave the most positive impression of yourself on the admissions committee as possible? Whether a letter/email of interest is expected or not, send it (hopefully within a wk of your interview). If you have gotten to the interview stage why let not sending a simple letter or email possibly keep you from getting in. And worst case scenario it doesn't hurt or help, but at least you know you left it all on the table.

At some schools if you're waitlisted, adding a letter ensures that your file will be re-reviewed (Wake Forest, Georgetown, etc). I think most people not in the SDN loop wouldn't think to write a letter of interest...so I'm pretty sure they don't expect everyone to.

They do help so go ahead and do it!
