Are MD's acceptable to Osteopathic Internship Programs

I'm an International medical graduate, an MD. My question is Are MD's( to be more specific, Foriegn MD's who are ECFMG certified) accepted into osteopathic Internship programs?? Do osteopathic Internship programs only take DO's, or do they take MD's too?

No MDs allowed. DOs can choose MD or DO. MDs are stuck with MD programs.

From what I can gather, MD can only go into ACGME programs, whereas DOs can participate in AGCME and AOA programs.


But this might change in the future since I do recall reading some talk about opening AOA programs to MDs too. However I haven't been keeping up with the reading so I really don't know what's happen to this proposal.

There are definitely folks in leadership in the AOA who are interested in opening up AOA residencies to MDs. I imagine that it will happen at some point in time, but I'm not sure it'll be in the near future.
